What are your goals? Are you looking to become your best self? This new year we are all making goals but are you making obtainable goals? If you want to have goals that help move you forward here are some NLP tips…
1. Know your outcomes. What do you want things to look like when you are done? Set your outcomes in a way that you could explain them to someone else who could know that you had met your goals by watching your behavior. How will you be acting, thinking and feeling after meeting your goal? If you don’t know where you’re heading it’s hard to reach your destination.
2. State things in the positive. Often we talk about what we “don’t want” instead of what we “do want”. An example might be… “I wouldn’t be so negative.” Ask yourself what you would be doing instead? ie” “I would speak positively to myself and others.”. Stating things in the positive allows us to move forward toward what we “do want”.
3. Can it be initiated or controlled by you? Goals that are not in your sphere to control or initiate are very hard, if not impossible to accomplish. Make sure that your goals are things you can do.
4. Explore what will happen when you meet your goals. What are the positive and negative consequences of getting your outcome? Everything has pros and cons. Notice
if the consequences both good and bad, are worth it to you.
5. What stops you? What gets in your way of accomplishing your outcomes and goals? This can be tricky. We might have images, feelings, doubt, fear, lack of internal resources, that stops us from moving forward. This is where having an NLP Life coach can help you get unstuck and move forward with your goals.
